Joseph Gordon-Levitt Must Cut Porn From Film About Porn
‘Don Jon’s Addiction’ needs to cut graphic sex to get an R rating
Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s directorial debut ‘Don Jon’s Addiction’ follows a porn and sex addicted Gordon-Levitt. The film sold to Relativity Media for an incredible $4 million upfront, but in order to make the film both profitable and mass-marketable, several graphic sex scenes will have to be cut in order to achieve an R rating. So, the question becomes, what happens to a film about porn without the porn?
“I think it is important that those images are in there, but what precisely you see isn't that important,” Gordon-Levitt begins. “What's important is the rhythm of the film, the repetition of what the Don Jon character does, over and over.” Gordon-Levitt said at a press conference during the Berlin International Film Festival.
Although porn and sex addiction are big themes in ‘Don Jon’s Addiction’, Gordon-Levitt points out that his film is “really a love story” that explores intimacy and the media’s obsession with sex.
‘Don Jon’s Addiction’ also stars Scarlett Johansson, Julianne Moore, and Tony Danza.
