Alicia Keys Refuses to Be Pressured Into Cancelling Tel Aviv Concert

“I look forward to my first visit to Israel,” says R&B sensation.

Despite having recently received a personal plea in the form of a letter from the author of “The Colour Purple” Alice Walker earlier this week, R&B singing sensation Alicia Keys is sticking to her guns and will move ahead with her plans to perform a concert in Tel Aviv this July.

Almost immediately after word spread that Keys had confirmed her appearance in the Jewish State in March, proponents of the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaign, including Walker, began the usual machinations including, Facebook pages and petitions to pressure the popular singer to cancel her concert.

In the open letter Walker sent to Keys, the author even suggested that should Keys go ahead with her plans to travel to Israel, she would be putting herself in danger.

"It would grieve me to know you are putting yourself in danger (soul danger) by performing in an apartheid country that is being boycotted by many global conscious artists," warns Walker, in the letter.

But, refusing to take the bait and join the ill-informed ranks of those behind the BDS movement, Keys told the New York Times:“I look forward to my first visit to Israel. Music is a universal language that is meant to unify audiences in peace and love, and that is the spirit of our show.”
