Unlike other popular high school TV shows (‘Beverly Hills 90210’, ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’, and ‘Degrassi’, to name a few), the creators of ‘Glee’ have accepted that some of the show’s original cast members have grown up, and must move on.

While it means that ‘Glee’ maintains it’s integrity, it also means we must say farewell to some of our favorite TV actors including Dianna Agron, Heather Morris, Mark Salling, Amber Riley, and Harry Shum Jr.

Last year, the characters played by these actors began to pursue lives outside McKinley High; Quinn (Agron) was attending Yale University, Puck (Salling) moved to California, Mike (Shum Jr.) went to dance school, and Mercedes (Riley) was seeking out a recording contract. Now, with Brittney (Morris) finally graduated high school after being held back an extra year, all of these original cast members must say their final goodbye’s.

““I don’t think of it in terms of eliminating or replacing. Because I think the thing about this cast is people love them and they are incredibly talented. They’ve left sort of an indelible mark. The thing that I wanted to do and the cast wanted to do, we didn’t want to have a show where they were in high school for 8 years. We really wanted it to be true to that experience. We thought it would be really cool if we were true to the timeline,” Murphy explained as to why he choose to release some of the show’s original cast members.

Lea Michele, Chris Colfer, and Naya Rivera remain on the fifth season, which is set to premiere on September 19th.
