Lena Dunham Shares Feelings of Fear and Shock in Private Email to Judd Apatow
The ‘Girls’ creator was “shocked” and “appalled” to the reaction to her Obama PSA
Now in its’ third week, Miranda July’s ‘We Think Alone’ project has shifted focus from love advice to thoughts about President Obama.
On Monday morning, a collection of emails provided by celebrities were sent out to subscribers with the subject line ‘an email that mentions Barack Obama.’
‘Girls’ creator, Lena Dunham, is one of the project’s participants. She previously shared intimate details about her finances, as well as an email with love advice to a friend, but this week she addresses the now-famous election PSA released that compared voting for the first time to losing your virginity.
In an email to ‘Girls’ executive producer, Judd Apatow, and writer, Jenni Konner, Dunham expresses concern about the “right wing” reaction through Twitter.
The subject line is “my obama PSA” and the email reads “is trending worldwide. see attached! i am SHOCKED and APPALLED by the right wing tweets I am getting-- not hurt, just amazed this whole side of the country is truly actively existing, calling women skanks like it's somehow a valid argument. I just hope the election is not the soul crushing colossal nightmare it could be. I am scared!”
Dunham includes a screen shot from Twitter that lists her Obama PSA ‘My First Time’ as the third item on the Twitter Trends list, as well as her name in fifth.
The ‘Girls’ actor/writer/director/producer created the Obama PSA prior to the 2012 election in hopes of encouraging young people to go out and vote.
