Sniper Elite: Nazi Zombie Army 2

Rebellion seems to have found a winning gaming recipe: a generous helping of World War II and Nazi storylines combined with mindless Zombie drones with a dash of first-person shooting and voila, one of their most popular games of the year.

In February, Rebellion released ‘Nazi Zombie Army’, a spin off to Sniper Elite V2. The game, which can be played as a series of campaign missions either in single or multi-player online, presents a “what if” scenario: Nearing the end of World War II, the German army is close to being defeated. In a little ditch effort to save himself, his people and his ideals, Adolf Hitler deploys his secret last resort plan. Using occult rituals, he raises all of his fallen soldiers from the dead, causing Germany to be overrun with Nazi zombies.

The game was so popular that Rebellion is developing ‘Sniper Elite: Nazi Zombie Army 2’, due for a PC release later this year, and possibly other consoles as well.

“We have to admit, we underestimated the demand for the original game. All of sudden we had console gamers desperate for us to port the game to 360 and PS3, but without a publisher this just wasn’t feasible. We left a lot of Sniper Elite fans disappointed. They didn’t want to hear excuses from us, they just wanted to play it,” said Rebellion founder and CEO, Jason Kingsley.

“As an independent, we’re obviously really excited about what we’re hearing from Sony and Microsoft when it comes to self publishing on PS4 and Xbox One. We think the series could be a great fit for them.”

"Nazi Zombie Army was a gamble, really. We didn't know whether it would work. We hoped people would like it. We hoped people would take it in the slightly tongue in cheek way it was meant with the title. And we obviously didn't have much money to market it.

"So we just put it out there and it's been very very good business and we've created a lot of fans who just like a straightforward gory shooter against zombies. It pretty much made its money back on the day of release. That was awesome."

Kingsley also provided Eurogamer with a few hints about the upcoming sequel.

"The environments, the levels, the soundtrack all give a strong feeling of descent - each encounter, each level becoming progressively more hellish. Most importantly though, we've expanded the legions of Nazi undead with some really intimidating new enemies which we'll reveal soon," he began.
