Every year, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association carefully selects someone in the film industry to receive the prestigious Cecil B. Demille award presented at the Golden Globes, which is essentially a Lifetime Achievement presentation. For over 50 years, actors, directors, producers, and screenwriters have graciously accepted the award honoring named after one of the industry’s most successful filmmakers.
Previous winners including Fred Astaire, Sean Connery, Jodie Foster, and Dustin Hoffman took to the stage thanking everyone that has supported them throughout the years, sharing personal information about their journey, and perhaps providing advice for future generations. So, the question everyone asked today after the Hollywood Foreign Press announced Woody Allen as the recipient for 2014’s awards ceremony is… will he even show up?
Known equally for his award-winning films spanning over decades (‘Hannah and her Sisters’, ‘Annie Hall’, ‘Midnight in Paris’, etc) and his choice to be absent every time he wins said awards, fans question whether Allen will get up on stage to accept this incredible honor. Will he send Nicole Kidman instead?
"There is no one more worthy of this award than Woody Allen. His contributions to filmmaking have been phenomenal and he truly is an international treasure," said Theo Kingma, the HFPA’s new president.
Cate Blanchett, star of Allen’s most recent film ‘Blue Jasmine’ is considered a front-runner for next year’s Golden Globes and Academy Awards, and like every other year that Allen releases a picture, he is being considered for Best Director and Best Screenplay.
Allen also stars in John Turturro’s ‘Fading Gigolo’, which recently premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.
