EXCLUSIVE: Director Lynn Roth Talks ‘Shepherd: The Story of a Jewish Dog’
‘Shepherd: The Story of a Jewish Dog’, centered on a German Shepherd during the Holocaust, is currently seeking funding on Indiegogo.
New Yorker, Lynn Roth, has been actively working in film and television for almost 30 years. She has the distinction of being the first female showrunner for a dramatic television series for her work on ‘The Paper Chase’. She recently directed ‘A Little Traitor’ based upon Amos Oz’s novel ‘The Panther in the Basement’. She’s been nominated for an Emmy and has won notable awards at the Palm Beach International Film Festival (Audience Award for ‘The Little Traitor’) and the CableACE Awards.
Her latest project ‘Shepherd: The Story of a Jewish Dog’, based upon Israeli author Asher Kravitz’s award-winning and bestselling Israeli novel ‘The Jewish Dog’, has all the characteristics of a classic film; inspirational, educational, family-friendly, and poignant. Just one small caveat. It hasn’t been made yet, and Lynn wants you to be involved in the production.
‘Shepherd: The Story of a Jewish Dog’, currently seeking funding on Indiegogo, tells the story of Kaleb, a beloved German Shepherd who is separated from his Jewish Family when the Nuremberg Laws are enacted in 1930’s Berlin. The film follows his journey through World War II- beginning as a working dog trained to round up Jews at a concentration camp through reuniting with his original master, a young boy named Joshua, who he escapes the camp with only to endure months of near-death experiences together eventually leading to their freedom.
Slated to begin filming in Spring 2014, ‘Shepherd’ appeals to dog lovers, Holocaust education advocates, or anyone that enjoys an inspirational family film!
I caught up with Lynn to discuss ‘Shepherd’, the Indiegogo campaign, and some of the fun perks that donors receive including a ‘My Jewish Dog’ bowl, a consultation with a real-life dog whisperer, or a featured role in the film.
