Engineer Debbie Sterling is tired of sexist toys for girls. In an effort to provide an alternative to the toy market currently saturated with pink and princess-themed products, she founded GoldieBlox.

Based in Oakland, California, GoldieBlox sells “toys for the future inventor”. The company, which launched only a year ago, is slowly building a reputation. They are currently a finalist for a Super Bowl commercial spot, but in the mean time, they’ve launched an incredibly impressive viral video.

Posted on November 17th, “GoldieBlox, Rube Goldberg, & Beastie Boys ‘Princess Machine’” has already amassed over 3.3 million views.

The music video features 3 young girls (aged 6-8) sitting in a living room watching a commercial on TV for yet another princess-inspired product for girls. Frustrated and angry, the girls go to great lengths to prove that they deserve better.

GoldieBlox explains that the idea behind this video is to “showcase the amazing inventive power that girls have.” They re-wrote the lyrics to the Beastie Boys hit ‘Girls’, hired six engineers, and the amazing Brett Doar- the man behind OK Go!’s Rube Goldberg machine.

The result is a “princess machine” made entirely with toys.

You’ve gotta see this! Expect to be singing “It’s time to change! We deserve to see a range, cuz all our toys look just the same, and we would like to use our brains. We are all more than princess maids!” all day.
