Anchorman 2 actor Paul Rudd has been chosen to play the lead in Marvel’s next big superhero movie, Ant-Man.

For those of you who may be unfamiliar with Ant-Man, the story involves brainiac scientist Hank Pym who originally discovers a way to shrink to microscopic size. It is assumed that Paul Rudd will be taking the role of Hank Pym, but rumours are buzzing of Rudd playing the role of Scott Lang, a small thief who steals Hank Pym’s technology and accidentally becomes a hero.

Marvel took their sweet time deciding between Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Paul Rudd for this particular role, but it looks like Rudd won in the end. It may or may not be a coincidence that this decision happened around the same time that rumours began circulating of Joseph Gordon Levitt considering a lead role in Sandman, the soon to be Warner Bros. adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s graphic novel series by the same name.

While Marvel superhero, adventure, action and Paul Rudd don’t initially seem to fit together, with Shaun of the Dead director Edgar Wright, Ant-Man is slated to be a more comedic Marvel production, perfectly suited to Rudd.

With a new superhero in the making, there is hope for a new member for the Avengers team that has been a hit with audiences everywhere. However, whether or not Ant-Man will be apart of the Avengers sequel, Avengers: Age of Ultron, scheduled for 2015 is unclear.

But could you imagine Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo and Paul Rudd on screen together solving scientific dilemmas? It would definitely be a scene involving charming, witty banter.

Ant-Man is scheduled for release November 6, 2015.
