Nadav Schirman’s award-winning documentary, The Green Prince has been acquired for U.S. distribution by Music Box Films. The real-life thriller premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on January 16th, and subsequently won the Audience Award in the World Cinema – Documentary category. It was also nominated for the Sundance Grand Jury Prize in World Cinema – Documentary.

“A Palestinian in Ramallah, Mosab Hassan Yousef grows up angry and ready to fight Israel. Arrested for smuggling guns at the age of 17, he's interrogated by the Shin Bet, Israel's security service, and sent to prison. But shocked by Hamas's ruthless tactics in the prison and the organization's escalating campaign of suicide bombings outside, Mosab agrees to spy for Israel. For him, there is no greater shame. For his Shin Bet handler, Gonen, there is no greater prize: "operating" the oldest son of a founding member of Hamas,” states the film’s synopsis.

The Green Prince is based on Yousef’s memoir titled Son of Hamas.

“We were thrilled by the audience's response at Sundance, so it's hugely exciting to be working with such seasoned distribution partners as Music Box Films to bring the film to American cinema goers,"Schirman said.

Schirman is best known for last year’s In the Dark Room, and 2007’s award winning The Champagne Spy.

“We're excited to be working with director Nadav Schirman and his producing team of John Battsek and Simon Chinn to bring this truly remarkable film to U.S. audiences. It's an edge-of-your-seat espionage thriller, a tale of an unlikely friendship that unfolds between adversaries and an incredible story of a young man's courageous personal, political and spiritual transformation,” said Music Box Films’ president William Schopf and managing director Ed Arentz, in a statement.

Music Box Films has slated The Green Price for release later this year, so it can be a contender for Academy Award nominations.
