Spielberg’s Latest Project: A Film About a Jew Who Becomes a Priest

The ‘Schindler’s List’ director joins ‘The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara’

Legendary film director and producer, Steven Spielberg, has just added a third high-profile film to his current roster, ‘The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara’.

With the production pushed back for the umpteenth time on ‘Robopocalypse’ and historical drama ‘Montezuma’ still in early stages of development, ‘The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara’ will most likely take precedence.

Co-produced by DreamWorks and the Weinstein Co with a script written by Tony Kushner based on David Kertzer’s nonfiction book, ‘The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara’ tells the true story of an Italian Jew who became a controversial figure after being kidnapped from his parents at 7 years old. Mortara was raised Catholic by his kidnappers and eventually became a priest.

Spielberg’s role in the project is unknown at this time, but it is expected that he will be producing instead of directing. ‘The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara’ reunites Spielberg with Kushner who he previously worked with on both ‘Lincoln’ and ‘Munich’.
