Canadian music and theatre producer, Michael Cohl, abruptly cancelled a tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ that was mean to debut in New Orleans on June 9th. Almost two months have passed, but the award-winning composer has not forgiven the decision.

On Tuesday, The Really Useful Group, Webber’s London-based production company, announced that it had decided to take legal action against Cohl for the “unilateral decision” to cancel the tour.

The Really Useful Group explains that it "has no option but to proceed with legal action to recover its costs associated with the project and in turn, satisfy outstanding payments to suppliers and contractors."

The revival of ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ starred Destiny’s Child’s Michelle Williams as Mary Magdalene, punk legend Johnny Rotten as King Herod, and N’ Sync’s JC Chasez as Pontius Pilate.

Cohl has not commented on the announcement, but previously said the cancellation was due to financial reasons, explaining that the show would cost in the “eight figures” to stage and would require pulling in “several hundred thousand dollars” every evening in order to move forward.
