Drake Has Cost Toronto Raptors $25,000 For Kevin Durant Comment
A comment made by the rapper has led to a tampering fine against his team.

Since joining the Toronto Raptors as their global ambassador, Drake has helped the team bring in crowds, attracted a new demographic, re-branded the logo, colour, and uniform, and added much-needed excitement to a basketball team that was starting to lose fans and enthusiasm. So, I guess the Raptors will have to excuse the ‘Started From The Bottom’ singer for screwing up just this once.
According to ESPN Basketball writer, Marc Stein, the NBA has fined the Raptors for tampering after Drake made comments about Oklahoma Thunder forward, Kevin Durant.
“My brother Kevin Durant was kind enough to come to the show tonight,” Drake said while on stage during his annual OVO Fest in Toronto.
“I just wanted to see what would happen if he came to play in Toronto. Let him know what would happen.” Following this comment, the crowd erupted in applause, cheering “KD”.
You see, as of 2016, Durant- the reigning NMA MVP- will become a free agent. It is against NBA policy for an employee of any team to publically recruit players. Since Drake is the Raptors global ambassador, he technically broke the NBA’s anti-tampering rules, leading to a $25,000 fine.
Durant didn’t seem bothered by the positive attention however, tweeting “I love the 6. Thanks @drake, nikko, chubs, future, P Reign and the rest of the crew. Y’all showed so much love.”
