Jon Stewart Endorses Toronto Mayoral Candidate During TIFF

‘The Daily Show’ host is currently in Toronto promoting his directorial debut ‘Rosewater’, following Iranian-Canadian journalist Maziar Bahari, who was detained and brutally interrogated in an Iranian prison for 100 days.

While walking the red carpet on Monday, he was asked to share his opinion about the current mayoral race being held in the city. The election is set for October, and sees controversial mayor, Rob Ford, running for re-election against Jon Tory and Olivia Chow.

Although Stewart can’t vote on the matter, he’s always happy to share his political opinions.

“From what I’ve read and see about Rob Ford, there are some skeletons,” Stewart jokes. “I haven’t been to City Hall yet… but I’m going to go,” he adds, before endorsing progressive leader Olivia Chow.

Chow was extremely flattered by Stewart’s comments, explaining that she watches ‘The Daily Show’ and considers herself a fan.

“Of course, he’s right…. I’m the only progressive candidate and that’s in line with what he has been talking about in the States.”

“He has been very progressive in his approach in an entertaining way, and I think his prediction (of me making a comeback) is correct… I’ve laughed many times on his various reports on Ford,” Chow added.
