Director Kevin Smith has been speaking with the media lately to promote his new horror movie Tusk, but that isn’t all he’s been talking about. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Smith laid out his plans to direct a new movie called Moose Jaws, which is a film that is based on the Steven Spielberg classic Jaws and replaces a shark with, you guessed it, a moose.

But Smith didn’t stop there. That conversation got him talking about how much he loves the original Jaws film which then lead him to pitch a Jaws sequel or reboot that he would ideally love Steven Spielberg himself to direct. Here is the actual pitch, in the director’s own enthusiastic words:

“No, dude. You set it in the present, and you use a hurricane, and you flood the town. Then the shark is in the town. Not just in the water. Because, again, on the land you're fine. But all that imagery from Hurricane Sandy, of houses underwater - add a great white shark. There's your Jaws, modern-day Jaws. Because then you gotta be on a rooftop. A shark could come into your house, dude."

And here’s what he had to say when asked about the prospects of the film actually being rebooted:

“Yeah ... just probably not while Mr. Spielberg's around. But sooner or later, someone will be like, yeah, people are still afraid of sharks, right? And probably get to it. You see them every once in a while take a stab at the shark market, but Jaws is just such a tremendous name brand. It could be in this lifetime if one day Mr. Spielberg is like, 'You know what? I wouldn't mind revisiting it.' That's my dream, dude.”

Sounds a little out there, but at this point we’ve come to expect nothing less from Kevin Smith. We’ll just have to wait and see if Spielberg will take the bait.
