If there’s one person’s face you don’t ever expect to see on a t-shirt, it’s Adolf Hitler’s. But apparently at a certain boutique in Montreal that’s exactly what you will find. Just ask Sierra Holtz who was shopping at a boutique on Montreal’s Mount-Royal Avenue when she saw a shirt that she found “extremely disturbing”: A portrait of Adolf Hitler sporting an Afro. The label on the t-shirt read “Too fast to live, too young to die.”
Holtz said that she approached the store clerk to inquire about the shirts, who told her that although she didn’t approve of the shirts, they sold well.
"I was really offended. Honestly, how could someone sell this? I couldn’t believe what I was seeing," Holtz said in a message on her Facebook page.
The clerk declined to do an interview on the subject, but did make a point of saying that the shirts were meant as a way to mock Hitler, not glorify him.
Holtz, however, says that she finds it alarming and scary that Hitler and other Nazi accessories may become a fashion trend. She may be right to worry as earlier this week, both Sears and Amazon removed swastika rings from their online websites.
“Either people are ignorant of what [Hitler] represents, or support what he stands for,” Holtz concluded. “When will it stop? So I am asking you, Jewish or not, to share this to stop the spread of antisemitism that still exists today.”
