Jerry Seinfeld Honors Jay Leno, Wonders Where His Mark Twain Prize Is

Jerry Seinfeld was among the many famous comedians, including Jimmy Fallon and Wanda Sykes, who honored Jay Leno when he received the nation’s top humor prize on Sunday night. Seinfeld and co. made a few light-hearted jokes at Leno’s expense as he received the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C.

Seinfeld started out on a serious note, saying that he's been friends with Leno for 38 years and that the long-time host of the Tonight Show was his idol. He went on to say, in a more joking manner, “There's no one more deserving to get this wonderful award obviously than Jay. No one, except — and I really don't want to sound bitter here — except maybe me? I mean, come on."

The award, which honors people who have had an impact on American society in the tradition of writer, satirist and social commentator Mark Twain, will be broadcast nationally on November 23 on PBS. Past winners of the award include Carol Burnett, Ellen Degeneres, Will Ferrell, and Billy Cosby. Who knows, maybe Seinfeld will be the lucky recipient of the award at next year’s ceremony.
