Presenting the Hasidic "Shake It Off" Hanukkah Parody [VIDEO]

Appropriately titled "I'm Taking Off"

We've all heard jokes about the Jewish holidays, and that they were essentially created for us yehudim to take time off of work. Which, even it was true, you'd think the hagim would be better spaced apart (why take off the entire month of September but work the rest of the year?)

Acknowledging, and mocking, this age-old anecdote, a Jewish comedy troupe released a video Wednesday that parodies Taylor Swift's smash hit "Shake It Off," appropriately dubbed "I'm Taking Off."

It's worth nothing that this is the second "Shake It Off" Hanukkah parody we've seen this month.

The song's premise concerns the fact that Jews have different holidays from the "goyim," and that when they're going to stay at work, we're going to take off and pray as goes the chorus:

“And the goyim gonna stay, stay, stay, stay, stay. And the Jews are gonna pray, pray pray, pray, pray. I’m just gonna take, take, take, take, take. I’m taking off.”

The lead singer of the group is the creative director of an all-boys Jewish Educational Trade Schools (JETS), Menachem Weinstein, who is accompanied by several students, and also one student who raps in Yiddish.

“The main concept of the video, the comedy aspect, is how a Jewish guy [who] works for a non-Jewish establishment is always taking off for all different types of holidays, and Shabbat, and fast days, and this and that,” Weinstein explained, via the Algemeiner. “So right now we’re in a Jewish holiday [of Hanukkah] so the timing was perfect.”

Weinstein put the video together in conjunction with JewBellish - the production company that gave you "Talk Yiddish to Me" - owned and operated by Hasidic comedian Mendy Pellin.

“I like the vibe of the Taylor Swift song and I tried to think of some kind of Jewish spin on it,” Pellin said. “And I couldn’t think of anything and I gave up and then it just hit me one day, about Jews just keep on taking off for all the Jewish holidays and Shabbat. And I’m just like, this is perfect.”

According to Weinstein, the song/video was created in a bid to show the world that Hassidic Jews are not "sad, close-minded people."

The video, intact with tons of massive challah breads, quirky Jewish stereotypes, and rabbis wearing large gold chains, can be viewed below:
