While Trekkies around the world are mourning the loss of Leonard Nimoy, the ‘Star Trek’ franchise has revealed good news about everyone’s favorite science fiction series. The final frontier will be touring North American symphony halls, sharing some of the best music from the past several decades of television series, movies, and video games.
‘Star Trek: The Ultimate Voyage’ is a concert tour of more than 100 cities in North America launching in January 2016. The tour will feature a live symphony orchestra accompanied by a 40-foot screen playing footage from “some of the franchise’s more iconic moments.”
In a statement accompanying the announcement, CineConcerts co-founder Justin Freer explained that ‘Star Trek’ “has for many years been an important and meaningful part of our culture in so many ways,” and that that the “exciting concert experience featuring the greatest music and visuals spanning five decades will be an extraordinary and memorable event.”
CineConcerts has toured similar symphonies inspired by ‘Gladiator’, ‘Lord of the Rings’ and ‘The Godfather’.
Freer, will previously conducted with the San Francisco Symphony, Chicago Symphony and Philadelphia Orchestra, will be conducting ‘Star Trek: The Ultimate Voyage’.
The North American tour begins in Florida in January 2016.
