If you’ve ever seen Saturday Night Live and their hilarious segment called “The Weekend Update,” then you may be familiar with their recurring character Jacob the Bar Mitzvah Boy. Played by the talented Vanessa Bayer, Jacob is a smart-mouthed young man who doesn’t like the limelight. With awkward silences and short answers, Jacob the Bar Mitzvah Boy is a hilariously accurate depiction of a young man coming into his (albeit awkward) own.

This past Saturday’s segment of “The Weekend Update” featured host Michael Che asking Jacob about Passover, which just recently ended. But Bayer’s deadpan stare and skittish answers shut him down each time and make the segment increasingly hilarious. If that wasn’t enough, the incredible skit also featured former SNL castmate Billy Crystal, who left the show roughly thirty years ago, as Jacob’s equally evasive and awkward father.

The sketch was possibly the funniest ever done with Jacob the Bar Mitzvah Boy, and Crystal’s reappearance on the show was reminiscent of the days when SNL was genuinely funny and the place to be for aspiring writers and comedians.
