Besides being a staunch advocate for Israel, Haim Saban has also been busy setting up a reboot of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers - a TV series that resonated with generations a generation of sci-fi geeks in the 90's.
While there were many unsuccessful attempts and new generations of the show, the true fans were obviously those of the original show (and the first movie), featuring all your favorite rangers: Rocky, Adam, Billy, Aisha, Kimberly and Tommy, and antagonists like Rita Repulsa and Lord Zedd.
And, while we're not sure about anything else regarding the movie, according to Heroic Hollywood, Rita Repulsa herself with be the film's main antagonist, which will be a sure treat for all you nostalgia fans.
Per Heroic Hollywood:
Sources describe her to me as... “A huntress. A striking, yet subtly alien-looking woman. She carries a metallic staff topped with a distinctive crescent shape. Advances with a soldier’s confidence, guided by some sort of compass... Her staff is actually a device of immense power. She points it at the ground. Heads emerge, built layer upon layer like 3-D printing, made from the earth itself... The staff’s technology grants her the ability to create humanoid figures, soulless and robotic.”
That sounds a bit different from what we're used to.........
Plus, there's more! Apparently, the prologue of the new film will begin on the last day of the dinosaurs on Earth, with Rita fighting the Power Rangers of that period - the red ranger, of course, being Zordon. Wait, that would make both of them like millions of years old?
On Zordon, Heroic Hollywood claims that “Though alien, he looks like a man in his 50s. Sinewy and strong, as if carved from some root that refused to die. A being of integrity and iron will.”
I'm actually kind of excited for this now. Film drops on January 13th, 2017.
