Director Steven Spielberg and author Michael Crichton first collaborated 21 years ago to bring a then pilot script for E.R to the small screen. Now over two decades later, Spielberg plans on going big once again with another one of Crichton’s novels.

1994 marked one of Crichton’s most successful years; Jurassic Park was No. 1 at the box office, his novel Disclosure was No. 1 and E.R was also No. 1. Right beside him for most of his accomplishments that year was Steven Spielberg, who not only helped breathe life into E.R but also directed Jurassic Park. Three years later Spielberg would bring The Lost World: Jurassic Park to the big screen, where it would rake in $618 million worldwide.

Spielberg now wants to bring another Crichton novel, Micro, to life. DreamWorks CEO Michael Wright announced Friday that Micro will be in production with Frank Marshall producing with Laurent Bouzereau and widow, Sherri Crichton executive producing.

Micro was unfinished when Crichton passed away in 2008 before author, Richard Preston completed it and had it published in 2011. The novel spent 20 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list despite the mixed reviews it received upon its release. The story follows a group of seven graduate students who make their way to Hawaii upon being hired by a biotech company, Nanigen. Adventure sets in when they get lost in the middle of the rainforest after being shrunk down to half an inch tall by Nanigen.

The project is still in its very early stages but Spielberg was quoted as saying, “We are so pleased to have this opportunity to develop Micro. For Michael, size did matter whether it was Jurassic’s huge dinosaurs, or Micro’s infinitely tiny humans.”
