Co-chairman of Fox Dana Walden, is seriously pushing for a long-term live action X-Men series to hit the small screen.
During the Television Critics Association summer press tour, Walden told reporters that she is hopeful the company will announce something of the series soon and the show is something that they are trying hard to make happen.
There are already shows based on Marvel characters, such as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D (with ratings staying steady in the 3-5 million viewers mark) and Agent Carter (with ratings ranging between 4-6 million viewers). And the Marvel shows success doesn’t include Netflix’s Daredevil which everyone who is everyone has watched because let’s face it – that show is awesome.
That being said, there is the obvious conflict of overlapping mutants from the Marvel Universe franchise, which is owned by ABC/Disney (not to mention the fact that a lot of the cool mutants have already been spoken for). Walden said, in order to avoid this conflict, that the show will not feature any Marvel characters associated with ABC/Disney.
Fox is shooting for next year as a release date for the pilot. They also want to ensure that the show isn’t something that will last a season. They want something that continues for years.
