$10 Million Donation Made to Jerusalem’s Hadassah Medical Organization
Irene Pollin’s gift comes from the heart for the heart
With heart disease the number one cause of death among women, a psychotherapist /author has donated $10 million to Jerusalem’s Hadassah Medical Organization that will go toward a new cardiovascular wellness institute.
Irene Pollin, the Founder and Chair of “Sister to Sister”, announced her generous and visionary gift on October 17th, at the 100th anniversary celebration of the Hadassah Women’s Zionist Organization of America, held in Jerusalem.
And, as there is with many of these extraordinary donations, there is a personal, and tragic, connection between the donor and the cause.
The Linda Joy Pollin Cardiovascular Wellness Institute was named after the donor’s daughter, Linda Joy, who, at just 16, passed away after having been born with a congenital heart condition.
Pollin began Sister to Sister in the United State over a decade ago so that women, too busy to take proper care of themselves, had access to cardiac screenings, an important asset in the battle against heart disease.
Sister to Sister has screened over 100,000 women and remains America’s largest provider of free female screenings of heart disease.
“Given Hadassah’s 100 years of experience helping women of all backgrounds take better care of themselves, I could not think of a better way to reach out to our sisters across the globe than establishing the Linda Joy Pollin Institute at Hadassah Medical Organization in Jerusalem,” Pollin said while announcing her donation. “Heart disease knows no boundaries, and neither will we.”
