The Top 10 Greatest Jewish Mustaches of All-Time

Billed as “Changing the Face of Men’s Health”, every November “Movember” sees the sprouting of facial hair under the lips of men around the world. And, it’s far from a frivolous activity, with men using their new and often unusual moustaches to raise funds and awareness for men's health, specifically prostate cancer and male mental health initiatives.

And, when it comes to facial hair, few cultures are so closely identified by beards than are the Jews, but we are a people who can also cultivate some pretty impressive hair above the ears, too. So, in honour of Movember, Shalom Life is proud to present to you, the “Top Ten Jewish Mustaches of All Time.”

The Porn Star: Ron Jeremy - Ron Jeremy is considered one of the greatest, and most unlikely, actors in the pornographic industry. Raised in a middle class Jewish household in Queens, Jeremy was first introduced to the world via his girlfriend's choice to submit his photo to Playgirl magazine in 1978 donning his now famous mustache. Over the last 30+ years, Jeremy has become a porn legend and is credited for the "porn stache" and popularizing mustaches in the industry.

The Fictional Character: Borat Sagdiyev – While Sache Baron Cohen’s character, Borat, is a fictional character from the mockumentary “Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan”, there is nothing fictional about that thick, awesome, Eastern-European mustache.

Despite playing a homophobic, sexist, anti-Semite, Borat (who, hilariously, was speaking full Hebrew in the movie instead of Kazakh) can bear full responsibility for making the manly 70s mustache popular again. Thankfully, the banana sling bathing suit didn’t catch on as well.

The Television Personality: Geraldo Rivera - Geraldo has been rocking his prominent and unique mustache for decades ever since he entered the American consciousness as the host of his controversial talk show Geraldo, which ran from 1987 to 1998. One of the early episodes was titled "Men in Lace Panties and the Women Who Love Them". He also had his nose broken during another episode in which he had a well-publicized brawl with Midget Nazis. Fortunately, his iconic ‘stache - on which he has an insurance policy - was not harmed during the melee. During the infamous 2005 trial of Michael Jackson, Rivera vowed to shave his distinctive trademark and auction it on eBay to help fund Jackson's legal defense. Thanks heavens it never came to that. Shalom Life is proud that today - almost 15 years since that show went off the air - Geraldo is still putting lesser mustaches to shame as a regular contributor to the Fox news Channel.
