If you’re looking for an easy way to reduce your chance of having a heart attack, then we may have your answer.

According to a study conducted by researchers at the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, half a glass of pomegranate juice and three dates a day can help reduce atherosclerosis, the accumulation of fatty cells in arteries, which can help improve your chances of preventing both heart attacks and strokes.

The study, which was recently published in the British scientific journal Food & Function, was performed on both mice and arterial cells which has been grown in their laboratory. They discovered that when pomegranate juice and dates were consumed regularly, the combination of the antioxidants were able to lower cholesterol in the arteries by roughly 28%, thereby helping to prevent atherosclerosis.

Although there are certainly other combinations of fruit which can help fight against heart attacks and strokes, dates and pomegranates had the best combination to prevent arterial blockage in test subjects.

It was noted, however, that the highest concentration of antioxidants was found in the dates’ pits. So head researcher Professor Michael Aviram suggests people looking to lower their chances of atherosclerosis consider grinding the pits up and covertly integrating them into your diet too.
