Barak Gives the Green Light to More Affordable Housing

Although building permits had been given out earlier, there were some diplomatic concerns about marketing the project.
News of the go-ahead comes after a month-long, massive protest in Israel, where citizens flooded the streets, protesting the lack of affordable housing.
Approximately 100 of the 277 apartments, which are expected to be completed in three years, will be inhabited by Jewish families forced from their homes in Gush Katif in 2005.

District Planning and
Building Committee gave its final approval on the construction of 1,600
housing units in Ramat Shlomo, in eastern Jerusalem, and more than 900
housing units in Har Homa.
