PM Netanyahu Tells PM Harper That Iran is a 'Danger to the Whole World'
Last Friday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu began a much anticipated visit to Canada where he met in Ottawa with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, key officials, and members of Canada’s Jewish community.
PM Netanyahu’s visit to the Great White North preceded his trip to Washington where he would participate in talks with U.S. President Barack Obama who delivered a speech to the U.S. lobbying group AIPAC on Sunday.
In his speech, Obama clearly showed his support for Israel and argued that sanctions against Iran need to be given more time to work.
During his stay in Ottawa, Netanyahu spoke to reporters about President Obama’s AIPAC speech. ,
Netanyahu said he appreciated that Obama "made clear that when it comes to a nuclear-armed Iran, containment is simply not an option,” before adding, “Perhaps most important of all, I appreciated the fact that he said that Israel must be able to defend itself, by itself, against any threat."
Netanyahu, who many believe was making the trip to Canada and the U.S. seeking support for Israel should they decide to strike Iran, made his feelings on the matter clear to Prime Minister Harper.
“The warnings that I and others have been giving over the years will materialize unless Iran is stopped,” said PM Netanyahu. “And that’s why I say the international community must do everything it can to stop it. And the danger is not only to Israel — it is obviously a danger to Israel — but I think it’s a danger to the whole world.”
