Woman Fired from Lingerie Company for Being ‘Too Hot’
Gloria Allred has taken on yet another case involving gender and religious discrimination- Lauren Odes.
Lauren Odes, a data entry professional, claims that she was fired from wholesale lingerie company ‘Native Intimates’ for being “too hot” for her Orthodox Jewish employers.
Odes and Allred held a press conference on Monday regarding their case. During the conference, Odes explained that her managers at the lingerie company warned her that her appearance was “too racy”, according to Reuters.
Odes claims that the managers suggested she tape her breasts down to make them appear smaller and wear a “humiliating” red bathrobe over her clothing.
"When I first started working there, I asked what the dress code was, and I was just told to look around and see what everyone else was wearing," Odes said at the press conference. "So I did. The dress was very casual athletic wear to business attire."
Odes goes on to explain that even when wearing a simple T-shirt and jeggings, her voluptuous shape was unacceptable to her employers who deemed her “distracting”.
Apparently, Odes agreed to purchase a long sweater to cover up even further, but that still was not sufficient for her ‘Native Intimates’ supervisors. She was fired with the reported reason cited, “You are just too hot for this office.”
Now Odes, with Allred on her side, have filed a discrimination complaint with the U.S Equal Employment and Opportunity Commission in new York.
"No woman should be told that her breasts are too large, her body too appealing and her appearance too attractive for the male leadership of that company,” Allred stated at the press conference, according to the New York Post.
‘Native Intimates’ has not responded to Odes’ claim at this point.
