Japanese Protests Call for the End of Nuclear Weapons

A group of those who survived the Hiroshima atomic bombing visited Jerusalem this week while holding signs reading “Nuclear Abolition”, written in Japanese.

The survivors held the signs in a protest at the Western Wall, demanding the end of nuclear weapons.

Not coincidentally, the Japanese visit comes as tensions continue to rise between Israel and Iran over the Islamic Republic's nuclear program, despite denials coming from Tehran.

“Any use of the atom [bomb] should be forbidden, even for intimidation," Hiroshima survivor Nagayama Iwao, 69, told AP.

In 1945, the United States dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, culminating with Japan's surrender, and the end of the Second World War.

The bombing completely devastate the city, and killed an estimated 140,000 people.
