Dinner for Three? Right this Way Mr. Presidents!
Miss Israel to Join Presidents Obama, Peres for a Special Dinner
The 21-year-old Aynaw, who became the first Ethiopian-born to wear the crown, recently received a very exclusive dinner invitation, one that will see her dine with two presidents – Obama and Israeli President Shimon Peres, and there was little hiding her enthusiasm concerning the invitation.
Aynaw, a former Israeli army officer, told the Jerusalem Post that she is “very excited” to have this chance to meet the man whose success she has described as a “notable influence on her life,” and that she simply “didn’t believe that this was happening when she received a personal dinner invitation from “President Shimon Peres himself.”
President Obama is “someone who accomplished things by dint of his hard work,” added Aynaw.
When asked why she thought she was invited to this very special dinner, Aynaw left nothing to the imagination, saying that she is “the first black Miss Israel to be chosen and [Obama] is the first black American President. These goes together.”
As a young immigrant to Israel, Aynaw “didn’t think that such a thing could happen” to her.
During the Miss Israel competition, Aynaw, when asked who had been a major influence in her life, pointed to another African-American in the person of Martin Luther King Jr.
"He fought for justice and equality, and that's one of the reasons I'm here: I want to show that my community has many beautiful qualities that aren't always represented in the media," she said.
