Earlier this month, a television station under the jurisdiction of the Roman Catholic Church Association, Rooms-Katholiek Kerkgenootschap (RKK), aired a video on a well-known children's program, featuring a song by popular Dutch singer/performer Pearl Jozefzoon.

The song was one about how the Jews killed Jesus.

With lyrics that include “Do not follow him. He is mad. Break him, break his heart. Kill him. Bury him with criticism, do not love him,” the song not-so-subtly accuses the Jewish people for killing Jesus Christ.

Now, Times of Israel reports that, following protests by the Dutch Israelite Religious Community, RKK has finally pulled the video off the air, and has apologized via the Dutch Trouw newspaper.

“Vilifying the Jewish people’s past is to vilify present-day Jews, especially when the audience are youths,” Ruben Vis, the Secretary and Vice President of the European Jewish Congress, said Trouw.

He also mentioned that “the church has done this for a very long time, and very well and effectively.”

What kind of impact the video has had on its viewers, particularly on younger viewers (as it was aired on a children's program) has yet to be seen. Unfortunately, anti-Semitism has been on the rise in Europe, and videos like this only add fire to the flame.

It is worth noting, however, that the Dutch have been mentioned in several pro-Israel headlines this year; earlier in September, the government revealed that it is opposed to a ban on Israeli products.

A few weeks later, the Dutch government handed out a stern two-year prison sentence to a racist man producing anti-Semitic t-shirts.
