On June 4th, the Rolling Stones will perform their first ever show in Israel, at Tel Aviv’s HaYarkon Park.

But they won’t be the only rock-royality to hit the stage: Rami Fortis, a pioneer of Israeli punk, will be their opening act.

Fortis is delighted at the prospect of playing with his idols. “There’s no doubt that they are my soundtrack and a huge source of inspiration for me,” he said, after hearing the news.

“If you would have told me that I would end up performing for them, it would have seemed like a joke to me, but everything is possible in life, and therefore, very exciting.”

The 59-year-old musician is widely considered the father of the Israeli punk movement. His groundbreaking 1978 debut album, Plonter, drew comparisons to iconic acts like The Clash and The Ramones, and his onstage antics earned him the nickname ‘The Madman.’

Staying true to his rock roots, Fortis is currently a mentor on The X Factor Israel, where Bar Refaeli described him as “the crazy one.”

The show is predicted to gather massive crowds, and The Madman seems ready to deliver another wild performance. “I have no words,” said Fortis. “To say that it’s very exciting is an understatement.”
