Pro-Palestinian Activists Attack at Los Angeles Israel Rally

As Operation Protective Edge made its way into Day 7 in Israel, all over the world pro-Palestinians have been uniting and rallying against the State of Israel, with demonstrations taking place in Berlin, Ireland, and Paris - where Jewish worshipers were trapped by an angry mob while in a synagogue - and even, unfortunately, right here on our own soil.

On Sunday, 1,200 supporters of Israel united for a pro-Israel rally outside of the Los Angeles Federal building in West L.A, transforming the area into a sea of blue and white.

As the Los Angeles Jewish Journal reports, the demonstration was peaceful, with those in attendance waving Israeli flags and singing songs. People drove by and honked their horns in support of Eretz Israel, and her right to defend herself against Hamas rocket launchers.

By the day's end, however, the peaceful rally was perturbed when several Palestinian supporters made their way to the rally. On the other side of the street, they were equally civil at first, as L.A. police officers stood in between the two groups to separate them as the pro-Israelis sang "Am Yisrael Chai" (The People of Israel Live).

However, as the rally progressed, the peace was interrupted when a pickup truck arrived, with four men stepping out to hand out Palestinian flags and long wooden sticks to the pro-Palestinian crowd. The men are reportedly Palestinian citizens who currently live in Orange County, and proceeded to attack the Israel demonstrators.

The four men were eventually arrested and are currently being held by the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department. A Homeland Security officer had fired a gun at the truck, but no one at the rally was injured.

The Israel rally was organized by the Israel American Committee and StandWithUs, appealing to not just Jewish supporters, but many Christian supporters of Israel as well.

One such supporter, Christian Armenian Linda Savadian, wore a sandwich board that read, on the front end, "Christians in USA support our friends in the Holy Land." The back end bore the words: “Peace, not pieces USA. Who is our ally in the mid-east?”

“I support our brethren in Israel,” Savadian said. “I’m angry that they have to put up with all those bombings, especially after those teens were killed.”

President of StandWithUs Roz Rothstein addressed the crowd at the start. “This war is hard for Israel to fight because Hamas is cowardly. They are hiding their rockets and rocket launchers in schools and mosques, hospitals and apartments,” Rothstein said. “They are intentionally endangering everyone, on both sides. All of us here today, who support liberal democratic values and peace, hope that Israel succeeds in defeating Hamas.”
