Looking for a Jewish Boyfriend This Fall?

A Craigslist post seeking a Jewish fall boyfriend has gone viral, and we have a few tips on how you can make your own ad equally successful

Are you single, lonely, and looking for a significant other?

Then maybe it’s time you put out an ad for a “Jewish Fall Boyfriend” this upcoming season, much like one New York resident did a few days ago via Craigslist.

Although the post has since been removed, you can still find a copy of it on Heeb Magazine.

The add is super specific, much like your request for a Jewish Fall Boyfriend should be. Everything from her desired candidates height - “5’10” in shoes or taller (I’m a realist), will accept 5’9.5” but must be willing to buy me all new flats to go out in” - to his clothes - “Going out wardrobe should include: various plaid shirts, Seven Jeans and shoes without an obvious platform; Loungewear should include: Basketball shorts, old And1 t-shirts and sneaker slippers you still have from your best friend’s Bar Mitzvah.”

In this woman’s ad, which has been listed under the gigs section of the website (does this mean it’s a paid position?), she specifies as much criteria as she can for desired applicants to adhere to. The piece, which reads like a horrible New York Jewish stereotype, does two things flawlessly.

It makes us laugh, and makes us want to reply out of sheer curiosity.

While the idea of looking for a boyfriend through Craigslist is ridiculous, especially when it starts with, “The High Holy Days are upon us and it’s time to open your eyes to temple cuties before all the eligible Jewish ladies begin to cover their bodies with black tights, black booties and lots of black leather. The weekends of the t-bounce at Finale are coming to a close,” we can’t help but admit that it makes us want to know who posted the seeking a Jewish fall boyfriend piece in the first place and if someone has yet to seriously reply to it.

After all, the post has been removed. Maybe she's found the perfect Jewish man for the fall season?

Although we hope this is some tongue in cheek reply to another post on Craigslist that was put up in early September entitled “Needed: Fall Boyfriends,” we can’t help but wonder if the woman is serious in the least bit.

However, if she is, and if you at home are considering posting your own inquiry for a Jewish fall boyfriend, here are some suggestions on how you can make your post stick out from the rest:

1. Make your opening line funny, clever, or pull on the heartstrings. You might even consider opening with a joke. Be aware that the first line of your ad is the first impression they’ll have of you, so steer clear of anything too serious.

2. Let applicants know a bit about you. Applicants should be able to read the post and have a good impression of who you are. Much like you want to find the perfect fall significant other, they want to be sure you’re the right fit for them.

3. Consider posting your Craigslist ad in both the gigs and personals section of the website, as well as through their part-time job listings. While you only want serious applicants, it pays to maximize exposure when looking for that special someone to keep you from feeling lonely, and to buy you things.

4. What someone does for a living is important, but it shouldn’t be everything. Although the woman seeking a Jewish fall boyfriend specifies that her mate be either in finance, law, or medicine, it’s important to think outside the box. By limiting them, you limit yourself.

5. Finally, request that all applicants include both a photo and a list of references. You want to make sure they look the part before you consider them for it, and you also want to hear from others who’ve used their services the previous fall. If they weren’t happy with an applicant as their seasonal other, then chances are you won’t be either.

And that’s all there is to it! Happy hunting and best of luck tracking down your very own Jewish fall boyfriend.
