Recently Ben-Gurion Airport was the latest target of the Ebola virus… but not in the way you might think.
The Israeli airport was the first in the country to undergo an Ebola outbreak screening drill to be used in the event of actual Ebola suspicions. The drill is an initiative of the government which aims to prepare the country for potential outbreaks and to take every precaution available in preventing infection in Israel.
The exercise involved spotting individuals with potential signs of Ebola, questioning individuals coming in from Ebola infected countries, to the proper procedure on how to isolate and safely transport infected individuals to care facilities.
According to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in a report by The Jerusalem Post, “Israel is prepared to stop, as much as is possible, the entry of Ebola patients into our borders, as part of our general efforts to defend our borders from illegal infiltrators and terror.”
While it may seem like an over reaction to the disease, more than 4,000 people have been killed by it and for the first time in history the US has had a few isolated incidents of Ebola. Canada has even had its scare as there have been 25 people tested for Ebola, according to a report by CBC News, although all of the reports came back negative.
