Op-Ed: A New Low for the Associated Press

After a Palestinian terrorist rammed his car into a crowded train station, killing a baby, the Associated Press ran this story: "Israeli Police Shoot Man in East Jerusalem"

As a member of the media, it sometimes makes me sick how publications lure in readers by blatantly skewing the facts in order to bring traffic to their websites (a trend otherwise known as 'click bait').

What's most upsetting is how, regardless of the scenario, Israel is often presented in a manner that depicts them as the culprit. It's a story as old as time, and it's notably gained momentum in 2014 after Israel's most recent war against Hamas.

No matter what the crime, whether it be CNN being accused of falsely representing information, or the IDF indiscriminately attacking civilians and wreaking genocide on the people of Gaza, it always comes down to this conclusion: the Zionists did it.

Blame the Zionists.

You'd think the Jews should be used to being the scapegoat by now, but then again, this isn't Nazi-era Germany. This is Western civilization circa 2014. As such, reporters should be presenting the news based on standards here in Western Civilization 2014.

But this latest act of anti-Zionist reporting from the Associated Press is perhaps the most deplorable, vile and outrageous act I've seen all year, a year where, while ISIS was on a blood lust for Christians and other such "infidels," Israel was being blamed for "ethnic cleansing" and "genocide" during their 50-day-war against Hamas.

In fact, the only reason reporters have focused more on ISIS in the past months seems to be because the two sides reached a ceasefire. But such a ceasefire has not been reached in the propaganda war, or the social media war. Swedish, British, and now Irish officials, have expressed their desire to recognize a Palestinian state, citing Israeli apartheid. I ask these officials, will recognizing a Palestinian state as Gaza and the West Bank exist today change the people's mentality? Will it lead Hamas terrorists to change the section of their charter where they call for the destruction of Israel and the elimination of the Jewish people? Did you know, British and Swedish officials, that a recent study shows that the overwhelming majority of Gazans (who voted to elect Hamas) believe in stoning to death for women who have committed adultery, or for members of Islam who wish to leave the religion?

We are all for peace and a two-state solution, but will creating a Palestinian state, as it exists today, bring peace?

Doubtful.

In any matter, people continue to blame Israel, continue to refer to "facts" presented by the Hamas-run health agency in Gaza, continue to accuse Israel of "occupying" Gaza, despite the fact they left oh so many years ago, continue to neglect the fact that Hamas admitted to firing rockets from dense civilian-populated areas, neglect to mention that Hamas combat manuals were found encouraging the usage of human shields.

And it's not just the uneducated cretins on Facebook and Twitter.

It's also the media.

Yesterday, a member of the Hamas terrorist organization rammed his car into a crowded train station in Jerusalem, injuring eight, and leaving a three-month-old baby dead. The suspect, 21-year-old Abed Abdelrahman Shaludeh, then attempted to flee on foot, forcing police to shoot him. This, as we SHOULD all know, is police protocol. The man was likely armed, and dangerous, and police did whatever they could to prevent further injury.

Shaludeh later died of his injury.

And how did the renowned Western media outlet, The Associated Press, report this incident? "Israeli Police Shoot Man in East Jerusalem."

Eventually, amid a scour of outrage, they, as well as Yahoo News and presumably other outlets who picked up the story, later changed it to “Car Slams Into East Jerusalem Train Station” and finally, to “Palestinian Kills Baby at Jerusalem Station.”

Unfortunately, this is too little, too late, Associated Press. Who knows how many thousands of readers, many of whom only read the headline and nothing more, thought to themselves smugly, there go these damn Zionists again?

Who knows how this reaffirmed, for so many anti-Israel advocates out there, that their reasons for detesting Israel are justified?

I mean, how would people react if the AP published a story on yesterday's attack on Parliament Hill in Ottawa as "Canadian Police Shoot Man in Ottawa"?

Not very favorably, I'd assume.

Not favorably at all.

To add insult to injury, Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, whose young daughter was just last week treated in an ISRAELI hospital, celebrated the attack on innocent civilians, as Palestinian protesters threw stones at Israeli kindergartens and at police officers as they made the way to Shaludeh's home. What exactly are they protesting??? Should Israeli police have just let him get away and do it all over again?

Is this kind of mentality, which obviously at least somewhat exists in Gaza, appropriate for the foundation of a legitimate Palestinian state?

But no, let's establish one anyways, without solving any of its social or political problems first. I'm sure it will be a haven for free speech, democracy and egalitarianism.
