Well here's a first.

The Neve Tirza prison in Ramle, Israel's sole female-only prison, has staged the prison's first ever fashion show, with inmates debuting the various outfits they themselves have designed.

The fashion show took place Monday, with models showcasing high heels and intricate designs as they took their turns on a red catwalk.

The project was part of a rehabilitative initiative which aims to bestow the inmates with skills they could use upon their release from prison, as well as restore their self-confidence after spending so much time behind bars.

And they said Orange Is The New Black wasn't an accurate portrayal of female prisons.

"The intention was to give real tools and create something that is new and through fashion to create a better society," said Yaniv Schwartz, a manager of business development at Studio 6B, the Israeli design school that organized the event.

The students of the school worked alongside the prisoners to create inspiring collections and outfits, which resulted in an eclectic fashion show focusing on everything from military wear to animal prints.

Those inmates who weren't interested in fashion design were also involved by studying makeup application, hairdressing, styling, and other useful skills they could use after their release from prison.

A spokesperson for the prison, Nicole Englander, said "We take advantage of the jail term. We want to get the inmates to return once they are released with better opportunities."

Englander added that one inmate who had studied clothes design in prison was able to continue her studies after her release. The prison currently houses approximately 200 prisoners, aged 18 - 60.
