Just hours after three armed gunmen forced their way into the headquarters of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in Paris, leaving twelve dead and several injured, five severely, in their wake, a car exploded outside a synagogue in the mixed Muslim-Jewish suburb of Sarcelles.

While reports were first unclear whether the explosion was due to a bomb, and if it was somewhat connected to this morning's tragic event, since dubbed the worst attack on French press in history, JTA confirms that the fire was was an "accidental, unrelated incident" according to the town's mayor, Francois Pupponi.

The explosion, which took place at 2:30pm local time, was most likely the result of a mechanical fire.

Nevertheless, it certainly put most of the city's residents on edge, particularly as it took place outside the Synagogue of Garges-Les-Gonesse, the same site that was attacked by pro-Palestinians during a July rally against Israel's Operation Protective Edge in Gaza.

The French news website JSS News first reported the car explosion, posting pictures of the scene onto Twitter. It took place hours after a deadly attack on Charlie Hebdo HQ, an attack which has since been condemned by leaders around the world.

At least two terrorists are still at large. They reportedly yelled "allahu akbar" as they entered the building, and added that they were avenging the prophet Mohammed by carrying out the cold-blooded murders of cartoonists and journalists.

President Obama referred to the attacks as carried out by "evil" and "cowardly" men. Philippe Val, the former director of Charlie Hebdo, said in an interview with Radio France that he had lost all of his friends today.

"Our way of rendering justice is to not to stand by quietly; it is to continue," he said, crying. "One cannot do otherwise. I hope that this tragedy, which is irreparable, will change things, that we will not let the bastards win. It is necessary to have a forceful and realistic discussion on this rising danger, which is real and that has been denounced for years. We have not listened. Today you have to listen to us, do not leave us alone."
