White House Trolls Netanyahu Pretty Hard with Bomb Cartoon

On Twitter, the US took a deliberate jab at the Israeli PM's 2012 chart

Following Benjamin Netanyahu's usage of a cartoon bomb chart during a 2012 speech to the United Nations General Assembly, where he urged the U.S. and other world leaders to ensure that Iran would never be able to acquire a nuclear weapon, the jokes came pouring in, and continued even months later.

The consensus seemed to be that the chart was something straight out of a Bugs Bunny cartoon

One jab that was particularly whimsical followed his October, 2013 statement that if Iranians were free, they'd "be able to wear blue jeans."

But it seems the jokes haven't receded, even years later. And the latest culprit to troll Netanyahu - and seriously hit him hard - is none other than his notorious frenemy, The White House.

Earlier yesterday, The White House posted a chart that looked awfully close to the one Bibi used in 2012 - and discussing exactly the same issue, no less - in what can be seen as a deliberate jab at the Israeli PM. The chart discloses to the American people what entirely are the "advantages" of a nuclear deal with Iran.

As you can see, the chart is essentially identical to Netanyahu's, and even includes his famous red line. “Under the framework for an Iran nuclear deal, Iran uranium enrichment pathway to a weapon will be shut down,” reads the chart.

It's no secret as to why Netanyahu would be ridiculed by the U.S. like this. After all, he's been the staunchest opposer of this nuclear deal from day one, and even spoke to Congress about it without Obama's consent - which many viewed as an insult to the American President.

Meanwhile, Bibi continues to condemn the infrastructure of the nuclear deal, and presents it as not only a threat to Israel's security, but to the American people as well.

According to Obama, however, the deal will be the best way to deter Iran from being able to obtain a nuclear weapon.

As Vox points out, though, the diagram presented by the White House is actually more "misleading than informative."

Per Vox:

"The framework grants them about 6,000 centrifuges, the devices used to enrich uranium. They can't enrich uranium to anywhere near weapons-grade, but they can enrich it. The diagram seems to outright say that Iran will be zero percent of the way to a bomb under the deal's terms. It's hard to put a specific percentage on it, but it's certainly more than zero."

In any event, is making fun of the Israeli Prime Minister really the best way to sell this deal to the American people? Seems like it's a way to further complicate what once upon a time used to be a very fruitful relationship.
