The world’s yearly happiness report is in.

The report is released yearly by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network, and is a United Nations initiative to demonstrate the quality of living in areas around the world. Social rights, life expectancy, governmental corruption, and freedom of expression are all taken into consideration when making the annual report.

According to their findings, Israel was 2014’s eleventh happiest country, and outranked countries like the U.S. and even the United Kingdom. Considered to be one of only two “free” countries in the Middle East, with Tunisia being the second, people in Israel have it good. According to a poll by TNS, as quoted by Arutz Sheva, 57% of Israelis are satisfied with life in Israel.

In 2012 Israel placed fourteenth on the list but has since been steadily improving. In another poll from 2013, Israel also claimed the eleventh spot for happiest country.

The ten countries which beat Israel out of a spot in the top ten include Switzerland, Iceland, Denmark, Norway, Canada, Finland, the Netherlands, Sweden, New Zealand, and Australia. The United States came in fifteenth place, with places like Costa Rica and Mexico coming ahead of it in the list.

The United Kingdom, surprisingly, came in at twenty-first.

The Palestinian Territories was also included, but came in at #108. Iran placed at #110, and the United Arab Emirates beat the U.K. by a spot, placing at number twenty. Ranking last on the list were countries like Chad, Guinea, Afghanistan, Rwanda, Syria and Togo.
