The Raptors have been selected to host the 2016 NBA All-Star game. Who better to help boost the team’s public image than the man Jay-Z describes as “the Kobe Bryant of hip-hop.”

Toronto’s rap sensation, Drake, has been hired by new chief executive of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, Tim Leiweke, to be a consultant for the struggling NBA team. Details of the business relationship have not been shared yet, but are said to be discussed in a press conference at the Air Canada Centre on Monday.

Drake might be the perfect choice to help with the Raptors rebranding. Not only is he one of the biggest stars in the music industry today, he is also a devout basketball fan, often spotted courtside at Raptors home games in Toronto.

On Sunday evening, it was announced that Drake would be the team’s “global ambassador,” and that with his new position, he intended to release a corresponding clothing line with his company, October’s Very Own. The same report explains that Drake will play a large role in the Raptors planned image makeover for next year, the team’s 20th anniversary season.

The Raptors are definitely in need of a pick-me-up. The team has gone five consecutive seasons without getting into the playoffs.
