Did Racist Chants Bring Balotelli to Tears?

Mario Balotelli, the iconic AC Milan striker, was seen crying on the sidelines after fans reportedly chanted racist remarks at him

Mario Balotelli, famous for his prowess as a striker, his uniquely colourful hairstyles, and being one of the only Jewish soccer players in the league, was brought to tears during Saturday night's match between his club AC Milan and Napoli.

Teammates and Balotelli's coach claimed it was simply his "passion for the game" and "desire to play" that made him cry, particularly since it was subsequent to his being substituted at the San Paolo Stadium, not to mention that the club lost 3-1.

“What can I say about Balotelli’s tears?” said AC Milan coach Clarence Seedorf to Italian media outlets. “They were the tears of a sportsman.”

‘Mario is human," he added. "These are things that happen many times in football and sport in general. I’d say it was actually beautiful, but I’d prefer to talk about the game.’

However, reports continue to pour in that it was due to racist chants directed at the young athlete that galvanized his sad reaction, though, interestingly, only in the English-speaking media. Nor any mention of anti-Semitism or racism during the game has yet to be reported in Italy.

Napoli has since passionately denied any forms of racism having taken place during the match.

As a Jewish player in Europe, Balotelli has unfortunately experienced anti-Semitism before, and has also faced bigotry on account of being an African male.

At this point, it does not seem like there is any evidence to confirm that any racism actually occurred at San Paolo Stadium. We will keep you posted with any updates.
