Following Germany Win, Malaysian MP Tweets "Long Live Hitler"

Malaysian MP Bung Mokhtar Radin’s congratulatory tweet to Germany is certainly racist, but also very confusing

Unless you’re living under a rock, or an area with shitty wi-fi access, then you are most likely aware of the severe ass-whopping Germany handed to Brazil on Tuesday with a 7-1 manhandling that may be the most humiliating, and most epic loss in FIFA history.

If anything, it may also signify the end of the Brazilian football dynasty.

And, after the Netherlands’ loss to Argentina yesterday, I’d be pretty terrified heading into the finals if I was Argentina. Seems pretty safe to say that 2014 is Germany’s year (finally).

Tuesday’s win naturally sparked celebrations all over the Deutschland, but also for German fans around the world.

One such fan, Malaysian MP Bung Mokhtar Radin, decided to congratulate Germany on their well-deserved win, though, I’d assume, given the nature of his praise, they wouldn’t want to accept it.

Bung, a member of the United Malays National Organization, went to Twitter to express his joy at Germany winning the game, and (because why not?) congratulated Hitler for the team’s win.

After all, he was a staunch supporter of German athleticism.

While Bung’s tweet doesn’t quite make any sense, it did, rationally, outrage the Twitter universe, especially German fans, causing the Malaysian politician to recant…sort of…

It’s worth noting that if Bung tweeted this while in Germany, he would have been arrested on the spot.

Many Malaysians also expressed their fury at Bung’s peculiar tweet, calling him “sick” and a “disgrace.” Germany’s Ambassador to Malaysia, Holger Michael, commented that the German team appreciated the support, but “strongly reject the unacceptable allusion to the fascist regime of Adolf Hitler.”

“I don’t know what’s wrong with people sometimes,” Bung said about the controversy in an interview with The Star Online. “Hitler is part of history and the German team fought like how he did.”

Rightt……..

Interestingly, the words “Nazi” and “Hitler” were both trending on Twitter the day of the Brazil/Germany game, though I’m not sure if that means people were merely using the words to attack Bung’s insensitivity.

Guess we’ll have to wait for Sunday’s World Cup final to see if Bung has any more irrational comments to share with us.
