Google’s 3D Tablet is Out Next Year
‘Project Tango’ will be able to give you directions in three-dimensions, not to mention offer immersive gaming

Earlier in the year, we reported that Google had announced they were building technology capable of building a live 3D map of a surrounding area via tablets/smartphones called Project Tango.
Technical lead on the programme, Johnny Lee, then said that the technology “strives to give mobile devices a human-like understanding of space and motion through advanced sensor fusion and computer vision, enabling new and enhance types of user experiences- 3D scanning, indoor navigation and immersive gaming.”
Reports indicated that Project Tango was still in preliminary stages, meaning it would be years before we saw such capabilities on the market.
But apparently, thanks to Google’s manufacturing partnership with LG, we may see a device with 3D potential much earlier than that.
Google has now announced that Project Tango will be ready for producers to use as early as 2015. As for its features and what it can do for you, the possibilities are endless.
“Imagine that you scan a small section of your living room and then are able to generate a little game world in it,” said a developer of the project. “I don’t know of any other controller or gaming device that can do that.”
Project Tango technology will allow tablets/devices to sense the world in 3-dimension; whereas Google Maps now gets you to the address of a certain location, with Project Tango it can get you to the exact room and location.
It can also remember exactly where you parked your car.
Needless to say, Project Tango is poised to entirely transform how we communicate with our surroundings. Looking forward to seeing such technology in action.
