Israeli Scientists Develop New Form of Antioxidant, Curcumin

An Israeli husband and wife team has made major strides in developing curcumin, a vital and effective antioxidant with tremendous anti-inflammatory properties.

The couple - Dr. Menny Rabinovich, a molecular biologist and biochemist, and former researcher and lecturer at Jerusalem’s Hadassah Medical Centre, and his colleague/wife Aviva. Dr. Rabinovich, who holds a M.Sc. in botany and biochemistry, have developed a liquefied version of curcumin called Curcumall®.

“Our goal and main focus in developing Curcumall® was to achieve high bioavailability without side effects,” explains Dr. Rabinovich. “We did exactly that with our liquid extract which is easier to ingest than any pill or capsule, highly concentrated, and readily absorbed.”

Research performed with Curcumall® at the Department of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology in the Hadassah Medical Center has shown positive results. Based on the findings, oncology patients suffering from Oral Mucositis (inflammation of the oral mucosa) as a result of chemotherapy are being treated with Curcumall®.

The principal active ingredient in Turmeric is called Curcumin. There is no more than 2-5% of Curcumin in Turmeric, and Curcumin as such has very low bioavailability due to its low absorption rate from the intestine to the blood. As a result, Curcumin’s bioavailability is quite limited when ingested as Turmeric.

Almost 2,000 scientific research papers have been published on Curcumin, which has been found to regulate numerous molecular targets and pathways that are linked to inflammation. Its natural anti-inflammatory properties are comparable in strength to steroidal drugs without the often harsh side effects.

“During the last five years in our work with numerous patients and doctors, we have repeatedly evidenced the significant effects and health benefits of Curcumall®,” said Dr. Rabinovich to Shalom Life. “The positive impact Curcumall® has had on people’s life is remarkable, and that makes us happy. We hope that as many people as possible may benefit from Curcumall®.”
