When rap superstar Drake released hit song ‘Started From the Bottom’, fans didn’t realize he was referring to his basement apartment in Toronto’s Forest Hill neighbourhood! Jokes aside, look at this soon-to-be-vintage clip that recently surfaced online of a young Aubrey Graham giving a tour of his mother’s house.
Featured as part of ‘Degrassi: Unscripted’, Drake candidly speaks to the camera while also introducing his mother, Sandi, and his grandmother.
As we learn from the clip, Drake’s mom only lives in the bottom half of the house. She lives on the main floor, while he has the entire basement apartment to himself. We get to see a table covered with photos of Barry White, Frank Sinatra, Notorious B.I.G and other inspirations. The young actor discusses his love for music and shares a little secret: he also writes rap music!
“We missed a very important thing, I write songs. I do music,” Drake says as he flips through drawers filled with notebooks of rap lyrics he’s written.
“I been a mess since every girl I left went and got a new man/But I’m the new version of Fresh Prince/And the Benz got bump for real/I switch wifey every season like Uncle Phil,” he raps, sharing a small taste of an original piece.
