Israel 2nd Only to US in Cyber Technology Profits

Another day, another reaffirmation of Israel’s prowess in the hightech startup field.

A new report from Israel’s National Cyber Bureau (NCB) claims that Israeli exports related to hightech and cyber technology reached $3 billion for the year 2013, which is reportedly more than every other country in the world combined, save for the U.S.

Said profits are approximately five percent of the global market.

With roughly 313 million people line in the U.S., and with a mere 8 million Israelis, being second in the world in exporting cyber products is a monumental accomplishment.

“As far as industry goes, Israel is a superpower indeed,” said NCB Chief Technology Officer Tal Steinherz at a conference in Herzliya. “Our part of the international market equals the entire world apart from the United States… We’re talking 5 percent of all world exports.”

According to Defense News, some believe that Israel can grasp ten percent of the market within the next five years. NCB Director Eviatar Matanya notes that Israel’s profits in cyber exports are three times more than the United Kingdom’s.

The NCB was founded by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is a staunch advocate of Israel’s hightech scene, and has even said the thriving industry can help fight against the BDS movement.

“We established the National Cyber Bureau for the purpose of transforming the state of Israel into a cyber superpower,” Netanyahu said at a Cabinet session, according to Defense News. Israel is now “a global cyber hub for innovation,” he added.

With government programs and loans, not to mention incubators, hubs, and a friendly, helpful mentality, Israelis have been able to take advantage and contribute to the country becoming a “mega power” in the hightech sector.

Or as Netanyahu put it, “We always knew that we have a land flowing with milk and cyber.”
