Israel & California Sign Tech Cooperation Deal

Looks like Silicon Valley and Silicon Wadi are teaming up.

The State of Israel a.k.a. Startup Nation and California – home to tech wonderland Silicon Valley – have signed a major tech cooperation deal, which will see both locales providing funding for research and development projects across a variety of sectors within the hightech and agricultural industries.

Israeli Chief Scientist Avi Hasson, as reported by the Times of Israel, called the deal yet another step in what have been many “votes of confidence in Israel’s economy, industry and innovation from a large number of US states and companies.”

With the new deal, Israeli and California-based companies will submit R&D projects to each other focusing on hightech, mobile devlopment, and agriculture.

Concerning the latter, California is particularly interested in Israel’s water management.

The deal comes on the heels of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu signing an agreement with California governor Jerry Brown to export Israeli water technology to them.

It was signed last week at a biotech conference in San Diego, which saw 17 Israeli biomed companies presenting their technology to thousands of visitors from around the world.

“Collaboration agreements like the one with California will contribute to the Israeli economy, job creation, advancing R&D, entrepreneurialism, technology, and more in both places,” said Hasson. “We are extremely pleased by this ongoing vote of confidence in Israel’s economy, industry and innovation, which have become an international brand.”
