Yesterday, tragedy struck for the entire Jewish world as our worst fears were confirmed: our three missing Israeli teens, Eyal Yifrach, 19, Naftali Fraenkel, 16, and Gil-ad Shaar, 16, who were kidnapped on June 12th, were murdered in cold blood, their bodies hurriedly buried in an area between Halhul and Karmei Tzur, north of Hebron in the West Bank.

As more information on the series of events continued to unfold, we learned that one of the teens was able to make a phone call to the police, whispering “we’ve been kidnapped,” after they realized the car they got into from a hitchhiking post was not an innocent Israeli vehicle.

The phone call was transferred to a senior police officer, who received no responses to his questions. The officer called the number back eight more times, but after reaching voicemail five of the times, deemed the call to be a “prank.”

Now, the Times of Israel has reported that a recording of the teen’s emergency call has been released, and that you can hear the kidnappers in the background telling the teens to keep their heads down.

You can also hear loud noises which could be gunshots. The call lasted exactly 2:09 minutes.

Reports speculate that the kidnappers found out that the call to the police was placed, and shot the teens dead shortly after.

JTA now reports that the police officers who mishandled the call have been demoted for “severe failure of conduct” after failing to follow up or notify the army.

The officer who called back eight times also didn’t alert any supervisors of the incident.

“Not providing a proper response to a man’s cry of distress is an unforgivable event by every measure that can ultimately undermine the public confidence in the police, which is a cornerstone of police activity,” said Israel Police Commissioner Yohanan Danino.

Today, the entire nation of Israel is in mourning as all three teens were buried side-by-side.
